(Scene: A Football Stadium, somewhere in Hong Kong, afternoon. The Stadium, with a capacity of 40,000, is barely half-full—only about 8,000 people are present.)
(The players, including YOU, a legendary footballer, stand on the field in your old team kit. Beside you is J, an old teammate, as you both await the opening whistle.)
J: What a pitiful city.
You: Yeah. I can’t believe this is how they treat us. It’s like they didn’t even bother promoting the game. Half-empty stadium, no energy…
J: And look at this place. Three days before Christmas, and they drag us all the way out here for this mess. Who cares about an exhibition game in a city like this anyway?
You: Well, the money’s good, though. I’ll give them that.
J: True. Can’t deny that. But seriously, where do they get the money to pay us? They can’t even fill half the stadium, and they’re flying in retired players like us.
You: Money's money. But I don’t think it’s worth the trip. Like P said, “Every minute here is a waste of life.”
J: You know, I’m just glad to be here with you guys. It’s the only thing keeping me from turning down the trip.
You: Same. I don’t care how much money they throw at me, I’m done. This is the last time I set foot here.
J: I’m with you. Not even for a friendly match.
You: Let them think whatever they think about me. I’m not going to stay after the game.
J: Me neither.
(The whistle blows, and you exchange a glance of frustration before taking your positions, eager for the game to end.)
